چکیده

The analysis of surface wave dispersion curves is a way to infer the vertical distribution shear-wave velocity. range applicability extremely wide going, for example, from seismological studies geotechnical characterizations and exploration geophysics. However, inversion severely ill-posed only limited efforts have been put into development effective regularization strategies. In particular, relatively simple smoothing terms are commonly used, even when this in contrast with expected features investigated targets. To tackle problem, stochastic approaches can be utilized, but they too computationally expensive practical, at least, case large surveys. Instead, within deterministic framework, we evaluate regularizer capable providing reconstructions characterized by tunable levels sparsity. This adjustable stabilizer based on minimum support regularization, applied before other kinds geophysical measurements, never data. We demonstrate effectiveness i) two benchmark - publicly available datasets crustal near-surface scales, ii) an experimental dataset collected well-characterized site. addition, discuss possible strategy estimation depth investigation. relies integrated sensitivity kernel used calculated each individual propagation mode. Moreover, reliability, caveats, direct interpretation particular investigation, especially presence sharp boundary reconstructions.

Empirical relation for estimating shear wave velocity from compressional wave velocity of rocks

In situ shear wave velocity is one of the most important parameters for evaluating dynamic elastic moduli and needs special energy sources for generation and receivers for detection. Identification of shear wave phase on a seismic record needs skill as it is not the first wave to arrive and is usually embedded in surface waves. To estimate shear wave velocity for site characterization and for p...

Hybrid ANFIS with ant colony optimization algorithm for prediction of shear wave velocity from a carbonate reservoir in Iran

Shear wave velocity (Vs) data are key information for petrophysical, geophysical and geomechanical studies. Although compressional wave velocity (Vp) measurements exist in almost all wells, shear wave velocity is not recorded for most of elderly wells due to lack of technologic tools. Furthermore, measurement of shear wave velocity is to some extent costly. This study proposes a novel methodolo...

Spectra of mantle shear wave velocity structure

We applied the stochastic method of Gudmundsson, Davies & Clayton (1990) (which was applied to ISC P-wave data) to teleseismic ISC S-wave data to obtain an independent estimate of mantle structure. We inverted the variance of S-wave traveltime residuals of bundles of rays to obtain a description of the spectrum of lateral heterogeneity as a function of depth through the mantle. The technique yi...

Resolving a low-velocity zone with surface-wave data

S U M M A R Y The main purpose of seismic inversion is the retrieval of seismic velocities and densities in the earth. Inversion of body-wave traveltimes cannot uniquely determine the seismic velocities as a function of depth when a low-velocity layer is present. It is generally assumed that surface waves do not suffer from the same non-uniqueness. The issue is addressed whether it is possible ...
